Cadet Summer Training from an Officer’s Perspective

Upon my graduation from college and commissioning as a 2LT in the United States Army, I was offered a three-month internship in FT Knox, Kentucky before I headed off to my Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC). This internship allowed freshly commissioned Officers to build their leadership skills and teaching abilities as an officer interacting with cadets, during their summer training.

I had the wonderful opportunity to accept this internship. My role down in Ft Knox included teaching cadets the basics of land navigation and Battle Drills. This not only provided the cadets with vital information for their professional development, but also gave me the opportunity to teach and lead.

Overall, the internship I attended continued to develop my leadership skills that were established during ROTC, and which I will continue to build as I progress through my Army career
